Why Driveways Fail
Most concreters focus on the surface — the aggregate, the colour, the sealer. But that's the last 10% of the job.
The reason driveways crack, pool water, or start looking patchy within a year almost always comes back to what happened before the pour. Base compaction that was rushed. Drainage that wasn't installed. Falls that weren't set correctly. Joints placed in the wrong spots.
And because concrete is permanent, you don't find out until it's too late. By then you're looking at two options — live with it, or pay to rip it out and start again.
We've seen it happen. Lucas has literally ripped out a driveway three weeks after it was poured by another concreter — because the drainage wasn't done and water was pooling across the entire slab. The homeowner paid twice.
That's not a horror story. It's what happens when the prep is skipped.
What Makes Us Different
Melbourne Concreting Solutions is an exposed aggregate specialist — not a general concreter who offers it as one of twenty services.
Lucas started at 18 and spent years pouring concrete for Melbourne's leading project builders — Simonds, Metricon, and Aston Homes. That means every slab he poured had to pass a builder's inspection. Not a visual check — a structural one. Base compaction, drainage, falls, levels, reinforcement — all signed off before the pour.
That same standard goes into every residential driveway we do.
Not For Everyone
If you're looking for the cheapest price per square metre, we're probably not your concreter. If you need a small plain concrete slab or a quick patch job, there are plenty of good operators who can help.

Stoked with how the exposed aggregate driveway turned out. Lucas walked us through the process and the finish is spot on. You can tell these blokes take pride in their work.
Lucas and the team from Melbourne Concreting Solutions did an awesome job on our new concrete driveway. The surface is smooth, perfectly level, and the finish looks great with the house. They got it done earlier than expected too, which was a nice surprise.

FAQ
How much does an exposed aggregate driveway cost?
It depends on size, site prep, and finish complexity — but most of our residential driveway jobs fall between $20,000 and $60,000. We'll give you a ballpark over the phone before booking a site visit, so you'll know early whether we're in the right range.
How long does a large driveway take to complete?
Typically 1–3 weeks depending on size, weather, and site prep requirements. We'll give you a clear timeline at the quoting stage so there are no surprises.
Do you only do exposed aggregate?
Exposed aggregate is our specialty, but we do the full range — coloured, stamped, decorative, and plain concrete. If you're not sure which finish is right, we can talk through the options on the call.
What areas do you service?
We cover North and East Melbourne. If you're not sure whether you're in our area, just submit the form and Hannah will let you know.
Why is drainage so important for a driveway?
Water always finds the lowest point. If that's not the drain, it pools on your slab — and over time, that causes staining, cracking, and structural damage. We install drainage every 4.5 metres and set falls correctly on every job so water goes where it should.
What happens after the driveway is poured?
Concrete needs time to cure properly before you drive on it or seal it. We'll walk you through the full aftercare process — when to seal, how to maintain the finish, and what to avoid in the first few weeks.
